Sharing Web Resources
The website I have been looking at these past weeks is the National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators.
1) Outside links: The NAECTE website has multiple links to related organizations such as; the Association for Childhood Education International, Council of Exceptional Children, Education Commission of the States, National Association for the Education of Young Children, etc.
2) When I looked at the annual conference section of the website, I found out that the NAECTE meets twice a year. They have a fall conference and June conference, with their fall conference being the main one. They have information on the upcoming conference, as well as overviews of previous years conferences.
3) The NAECTE e-letters are sent every season (fall, winter, spring, and summer). They contain information about the association, but do not contain outside links.
4) The Association has its own by-laws, policies, and position statements on education. These statements and positions talk about teacher preparation and providing children with a quality education.
5) While I enjoy looking at this website, I wish that it contained more information, issues, trends, and research on current early childhood education topics. If you are a paid member, you can access the members’ only section and view different manuscripts. I wish that this was available to anyone.
My website seems to be all over the place. Sometimes I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at. It is very fun to analyze these websites though, it gives me insight on things I didn't know. That stinks that you have to pay to get that stuff! Good review!
ReplyDeleteIf you are wishing you could get into the site, it might be worth it to join. Are you on Linkedin or Facebook with access to other kindergarten teachers? Often times, I ask colleagues about the websites, apps, and other resources they find valuable. Ask around, maybe joining would be a great investment for you! I find the investment in organizations to be very valuable to my work. It was much harder to justify the expense when I was new though. I understand your hesitation. Maybe they have a trial membership? Thanks for your post this week.

Hi Melanie. Your website is fascinating and it gives informative newsletters, upcoming workshops and conferences. Like the NAEYC, it is discusses several issues that are important for educators, parents and organizations. I like the fact that the NAECTE offers awards and funding opportunities for those dedicated to education. Excellent choice, Melanie.
ReplyDeleteMElanie,
ReplyDeleteIt is true that it seems to cost money to access any new information on child development and any new issues or trends. The website I am researching has a newsletter but it is full of advertisement to buy new books, CD, and even to purchase their journal. It even wants you to buy and downloand digital information for trainings and even CEU's. I guess information to inform us of new research and topics now isn't free. Great blog post, MElissa
